Hello, my name is Ray Brienza and I am one of the instructors at Rocky Mountain Diving Center.
I first started diving in 1978 during a family trip to Acapulco, Mexico. I then became NAUI certified scuba diver in 1983 while attending college, in Salina, Kansas. I transferred to Colorado State University in 1986, and started assisting the Scuba class at CSU. In 1986, I became an instructor for Midwest Divers Supply in Fort Collins.
Then I moved back to Lakewood and started teaching with RMDC in 1989. Since then I have become a Dive Control Specialist Instructor, which is an instructor who can take a person from a basic SCUBA class to an Assistant Instructor. I’m also certified to teach First Aid and CPR, Scuba Rangers and a Merit Badge Counselor with The Boy Scouts of America.
My passion is teaching SCUBA classes. I love seeing students light up accomplishing tasks underwater. The expression:
“You what me to do WHAT?” to “I can do this and it is FUN!”
I have been to some of the greatest places and met some of the most interesting people around the world, because of diving. One of my favorite places to dive is Turks & Caicos Islands, where I dove with a Nassau Grouper the size of a VW Bug.
My dream is to one day be diving in Antarctica, I will get there someday.
